Our tour starts with the visit of the Royal Palace of Caserta, declared a
world Heritage site by
Unesco, it was built by
Charles Bourbon, in 1752, planned by the famous architect
Luigi Vanvitelli. The Royal Palace covers 45,000 m2 and its five stories rise to a height of 36 m.. Through the monumental main staircase, we access the royal apartments. The rooms are decorated in the typical
baroque and
rococò taste of the late 1700’s with silk wallpaper covering the walls, chandeliers in Murano glass with beautifully decorated ceilings. You will not miss the big Nativity, the lavish throne room and the beautiful Palatine Chapel .
Our tour continues to the spectacular
Royal Palace gardens. The park stretches out for 120 hectares. The main axis is punctuated by a series of
Baroque fountains, designed by Gaetano Salomone, this magnificent perspective terminates at the Great Fountain, ornate with sculptures representing Diana bathing, observed by the unfortunate Actaeon. The charming botanical garden was commissioned by Queen Maria Carolina of Habsburg and designed by Carlo Vanvitelli.
After lunch, by car we reach Pompeii.
By a
walking tour around Pompeii, your private licensed guide will show you some some of the most important buildings in town bringing the ancient city alive. Pompeii founded by the Italics people, the Oscans, became a colony of Rome in the 1st century BC. The city was buried in 79 AD, during the terrible and devastating eruption of the Vesuvius volcano, in layers of ash and lapillus and lost from memory. In 1748, during the reign of King Charles of Bourbon, excavations began, luring royalty, writers, artists, and ordinary people from everywhere. They had an irresistible curiosity to visit and see for themselves the ancient city as it was brought back to the world, almost intact in its splendor! Walking on the original streets we pass typical shops and buildings that were used during daily life: bakeries, termopoliums, the public baths, a domus. Reaching the Forum area we are surrounded by: the Basilica,
the Macellum, theCapitolium, the Building of Eumachia, the Vespasianus and Apollo Temple. During our tour we also see some of thevictims of the eruption, most of them asphyxiated.
At the end of the day you will have some wonderful memories to preserve
