The name Sorrento is tied to the legend of the syrens, according to which the Sorrento coastline was the legendary place where these creatures, half bird half woman, bewitched sailors with their voices, thus making them shipwreck against the rocks.

Our itinerary starts from the ancient city walls to reach the Cathedral. Originally built in the 11th century but reconstructed in the 15th century, remarkable are the pieces of furniture and the Station of the Cross made by local craftsmen involving the use of wood carving and wood inlay. The origin of Sorrento  marquetry dates back to the VI and VII centuries with the Benedictine monks and is famous all around the world.
Also of note in the church's interior is the baptistery famous for having witnessed the christening of Italian poet Torquato Tasso, born in this city in 1544. We enjoy a walk through the narrow streets of the historical centre, where it is still possible to see the orthogonal layout of the roads originally built during the Greek- Roman period.

In the heart of the Old City there’s the Sedil Dominova, the only ancient noble seat left in the Campania Region. We continue our pleasant stroll to the public gardens, to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples and take a picture of the marvelous San Francis cloister. We continue to the oldest church in Sorrento: the Sant’Antonino basilica. Its origin dates back to  the 9th century and was built on the ruins of a pagan temple. Sant’Antonino is Sorrento’s patron Saint and in the crypt where we have his relicts numerous  "ex voto" are kept. We follow our way to Piazza Tasso, the main square. Crossing it, it is possible to admire from above, in a suggestive perspective, a natural  spectacle: The Valley of the Mills. Looking at the dramatic gorge, we will understand better the geological formation of the Sorrento Coast.

With a car transfer we reach the country side, where we will enjoy the visit of a farm surrounded by lemons, oranges and olive trees. We will see how the local fresh cheese is made the Fior di latte, a type of cheese similar to mozzarella and admire an old olive press. For lunch we will sample the products of the farm.

Note: the order of the churches visited may change; the tour can be organized between 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 p.m. due to the churches opening hours; dress code to visit the churches: tank tops, bare shoulders or short skirts are not permitted.
